What We Grow

In the Garden Farm is currently focusing on specialty annual crops while we plant and establish more perennial crops.

Our primary crops are young ginger and turmeric, which we harvest beginning at the end of summer each year. Our offering of ginger includes: Bubba Blue and Hawaiian Yellow. Our Turmeric crop is composed of: Red Hawaiian, Indira Yellow, White Mango, and BKK (highest cucurmin content). In addition, we are experimenting with some hardy ornamental gingers for nursery stock and Mioga ginger, which is a hardy ginger with an edible flower bud.

Some of our other vegetable crops include:

  • spring onions
  • radishes
  • turnips
  • burdock
  • beets
  • rhubarb
  • peppers
  • sweet potatoes
  • winter squash
  • watermelons
  • peppers
  • tomatoes

We are also growing a wide variety of herbs:

  • basil
  • Thai basil
  • tulsi
  • catnip
  • lavender
  • yellow lavender
  • lemon balm
  • lemon grass
  • mint
  • licorice
  • galangal
  • echinachea – purpurea & angustifol

In the Garden Farm features a limited supply of nursery stock. This consists of primarily native or drought tolerant annuals and perennial shrubs from seeds collected from the farm or around Austin.

We are in the process of planting a wide selection of fruit trees and bushes including peach trees, Asian pears, figs, mulberries, goji berries, blackberries and raspberries.

In the Garden Farm is home to a burgeoning bee yard. In the near future, we will have honey in the comb and honey infused with our herbs.

Contact us if there is something you would like us to grow for your organization or garden! We are happy to grow anything unusual that you cannot currently find in Austin. It is always exciting to work with new idiosyncratic plants!
